Domenici Sought Iglesias Ouster

Former U.S. Attorney David Iglesias was fired after Sen. Pete Domenici, who had been unhappy with Iglesias for some time, made a personal appeal to the White House, the Journal has learned. Domenici had complained about Iglesias before, at one point going to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales before taking his request to the president as a last resort.
The senior senator from New Mexico had listened to criticism of Iglesias going back to 2003 from sources ranging from law enforcement officials to Republican Party activists.
Domenici, who submitted Iglesias' name for the job and guided him through the confirmation process in 2001, had tried at various times to get more white-collar crime help for the U.S. Attorney's Office— even if Iglesias didn't want it.
At one point, the six-term Republican senator tried to get Iglesias moved to a Justice Department post in Washington, D.C., but Iglesias told Justice officials he wasn't interested.
In the spring of 2006, Domenici told Gonzales he wanted Iglesias out.
Gonzales refused. He told Domenici he would fire Iglesias only on orders from the president.
At some point after the election last Nov. 6, Domenici called Bush's senior political adviser, Karl Rove, and told him he wanted Iglesias out and asked Rove to take his request directly to the president.
Domenici and Bush subsequently had a telephone conversation about the issue.
The conversation between Bush and Domenici occurred sometime after the election but before the firings of Iglesias and six other U.S. attorneys were announced on Dec. 7.
Iglesias' name first showed up on a Nov. 15 list of federal prosecutors who would be asked to resign. It was not on a similar list prepared in October.
The Journal confirmed the sequence of events through a variety of sources familiar with the firing of Iglesias, including sources close to Domenici. The senator's office declined comment.
The House and Senate Judiciary committees are investigating Iglesias' firing as well as the dismissals of six other U.S. attorneys. Gonzales, the embattled attorney general whose job is likely in the balance, is scheduled to testify Tuesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Senate and House Democrats have focused on a telephone call Domenici made to Iglesias in October.
Iglesias testified before the congressional committees that Domenici called him at home and asked if indictments were imminent in a public corruption investigation of Albuquerque's Metropolitan Courthouse construction. Iglesias told him indictments were not expected anytime soon. Iglesias testified that Domenici said, "I'm very sorry to hear that." And then hung up.
Iglesias said he felt "pressured" and "violated" by the telephone call but did not report it to Justice Department headquarters as required.
Domenici has admitted and apologized for making the call, but he denied pressuring Iglesias. He has also said he didn't mention the election.
Democrats have accused Domenici of attempting to influence the outcome of a tight congressional race between incumbent Republican Heather Wilson and former state Attorney General Patricia Madrid. Wilson won the election by fewer than 900 votes. Iglesias could not be reached for comment. He was reportedly out of the country on Navy duty.
A spokesman for Domenici's office said they were not prepared to comment at this time.

Looking for a paper trail
Exactly how Iglesias' name came to be included on a Nov. 15 list of U.S. attorneys to be fired has been a mystery House and Senate Democrats have been trying to unravel.
There are gaps in documents provided to Congress by the Justice Department about the firings and other records are severely redacted. Gonzales' former chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, said he couldn't give a reason for Iglesias' firing during his testimony before Congress last month. He did say that if a U.S. attorney wasn't succeeding politically, he wasn't succeeding.
Documentation that has been turned over to Congress doesn't indicate problems with Iglesias' performance from the Department Justice point of view.
The documents reveal Domenici called Gonzales and his deputies on several occasions in 2005 and 2006. In one undated memo, a Gonzales aide wrote, "Domenici says he doesn't move cases," in reference to Iglesias. New Mexicans who complained directly to the Justice Department about Iglesias said they learned he was held in high regard by Gonzales and his staff. At least one memo shows Iglesias was offered a job heading the Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys in Washington, D.C. Iglesias turned the job down.
That job offer, according to several sources, was made at the prodding of Domenici.According to sources, Iglesias was also considered for U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., and other administrative posts at department headquarters. Iglesias was apparently unaware that Domenici was unhappy with his job performance when he turned those jobs down.

Gwen Araujo Story

The reader, dear, changed to the topic KoKi today, the Jingga Tape in San Francisco again sent the story about the group terpinggirkan other, the group transseksual.People with the identity of sex (sex identity) was different from physical sex (physical sex) available to himself.Or, in the plain and explicit language a person waria was named Pangky, "Begini yes, among day and night that was in the afternoon."In the gap night and day was the morning.Yes such was we-we this. The main thing is remeng-remeng, he said about his existence.
Transvestite generally is male that adopted the dentity of the woman through adornment and the everyday behaviour, and usually it was considered the "woman full time". And Transeksual was the person that identified himself as the member from the opponent of his kind & usually underwent the substitute operation for gender in order to become the person with gender that was craved. This should be not confused with the person who had 2 genders, half men 1/2 the alias woman hermaphrodite or intersexual. Finally, there was also the Q group that meaning that Questioning (Confused so AC/DC? From Castro, the place gay & the lesbian, I will ask the reader to the area downtown San Fran, Distrik Tenderloin (steak the time:)).Generally waria was focussed here.Tenderloin is generally avoided by tourists, moreover tonight. This because here had an amount spot "obscure", the activity of the sale of drugs and many alcohol shops (more than 60)!A little vivere pericoloso, huh? This that made apartment rent here relatively cheap compared to neighborhood other in San Francisco. Many artists and the writer live in here. Also the Vietnamese immigrant & South America. In order to save the cost of living that was expensive in San Fran, some people Indo chose live in around this region. Although hair-raising according to the Amrik measurement, the intensity, many non-governmental organisations co-operated improved this regional image. One of the LSM famous was "Glide Memorial Church" that was led by the Pastor the black person, Cecil Williams, that served various races and the group, poor people who have moved to the city, including the group transgender!Several years ago President Clinton visited to Glide to see directly the social work of the priest & his group!People say, Tenderloin now quite far the difference from the last 10 years, moreover after dotcom the boom in the 90 's many ethnic restaurants (Vietnam, India, Pakistani, Chinese) that was good, dirt cheap was widespread in this district. SStill the matter of the law, was touched on by me dikit the warm case about waria was named Gwen Araujo.Gwen this was waria from Atlanta that was killed sadistically by 3 men in 2002 in SF Bay Area here. His case has been brought to court and all the perpetrators of the mean murder diterali the iron! For I, that interesting was rumours about "Transgender or Gay Panic".He said, this womanising man wanted to have a date with Gwen because from outside the good-looking plasticity. Afterwards, they felt they "panicked" and was "cheated" because the Gwen this evidently still had "birds"! This pretext that was acknowledged as "Transgender/Gay Panic" and liked to be worn by the suspects in the killer waria/gay so that his punishment period is reduced and alleviated. This that diseminarkan was the same police, the LGBT NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATION and the upholders of the law all of America in San Francisco last week. So, murder Is murder, no matter who the victims are! This seminar very much decisive that the killer waria/gay could not berkelit from the law on the basis of being "cheated" or "panic" earlier! There was LSM here that especially handled the legal affair waria and LGBT, please link along with www.transgenderlawcenter.org!Sssst, much less waria original Amrik, waria foreign that felt was tortured in his origin country & could prove him, not a little that got asylum to live in the USA and become the citizen here! Believe it or the note?!

Picture Sea breezes in Sumba, Indonesia
Sea breezes occur along nearly every coast of the world, whether it be an island or a major land mass. An island must be of sufficient size, though, to establish daytime convection over land and to initiate the onshore flow of air from the sea.
Sea breeze wind regimes have been studied for many years, but their offshore extent and variation in width along a coast was unknown until such details were photographed from manned spacecraft. An excellent example of the variable width and effects of sea breezes lay in front of the Challenger crew as they orbited past the Indonesian island of Sumba. Variations in the offshore extent of the sea breeze are shown in the looping lines of cumulus clouds that follow the shoreline projections and indentations.

Grandma's Marathon headphones could be banned

LISTENING to music on headphones -

something that is cherished by most amateur runners - could be on its way out of marathons.

Ahead of Sunday's famed New York Marathon, runners are strongly discouraged from counting on Beyonce or Bon Jovi for support through their iPods.

The move comes after USA Track & Field, the national body for running, barred the use of headphones and portable audio players at its official races this year.

It wants runners to be more aware of their surroundings and able to clearly hear race announcements or warnings from other runners, in order to avoid injury or lawsuits, reported The New York Times.

The ruling has split the running community in America, although Singapore enthusiasts can listen easy.

'The banning of earphones is not in our rules,' said Chan Chow Tin, Singapore Athletic Association's chairman (cross-country and road running).

'And why should earphones be banned? Music can help psyche the athletes. It will help take away their pain and make them feel better.'

But Chan, who is also the race director of next month's Singapore Marathon, admitted that if the International Association of Athletics Federations ever decided to ban music on the run, Singapore would have no choice but to abide by it.

And some events run by Singapore-based organisations already ban headphones. The rules for the recent Lombok Triathlon in Indonesia specified that headphones were not allowed.

The race was run by Tribob, a Singapore-based outfit which organises coaching sessions and races for triathletes here.

Trying to enforce such a rule on a course filled with 38,000 runners armed with smaller and smaller audio players may be futile. Because of that, the New York City Marathon will not attempt to police its field on Sunday.

But some have already taken a hard line, like June's Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, where about 7,000 runners took part.

Race officials collected iPods at the start and then mailed them back to competitors. And the 30 runners who broke the rules and used headphones were disqualified.

'We proved that it is very possible to enforce,' said Scott Keenan, the Grandma's Marathon race director. 'If other races are allowing it, then shame on them.'

New York City Marathon's race director, Mary Wittenberg, admitted that if all the major marathons agreed to enforce the ban, New York City would follow.

'Our overwhelming concern is safety, but I think somebody is crazy to wear an iPod at this marathon for other reasons,' she said. 'You want every single sense tuned in to the experience of running the race of a lifetime.'

Elite runners do not listen to music in races because they need to concentrate on their own bodies and hear their competitors, and some die-hard, old-school runners follow suit.

Tucker Andersen, who has run in every New York City Marathon since 1976, said headphones could create dangerous situations for other competitors.

He remembered incidents in which runners, oblivious to the people around them, cut off others in a dash for a cup of water.

Some participants at Singapore events agreed.

Vicky Campbell, an NUS Triathlon participant, said: 'The use of earphones is not banned during the NUS Triathlon. But I don't use them as it can be quite dangerous if we are distracted by music.''

But, for competitors who use music as a motivational tool while training and competing, the ban was frustrating, as if the race directors were forcing them to run barefoot.

'I dare them to find the iPod on me,' said Richie Sais, 46, a police officer in Suffolk County on Long Island, before running the Marine Corps Marathon.

Abstract

Ecotourism in protected areas is viewed as a sustainable alternative to mass tourism and as a means of providing benefits to local communities which bear the greatest opportunity costs of protection. However, these ideals have rarely been tested. This study used small-scale survey methods to examine the magnitude and distribution of tourism employment and revenue generation in communities in an Indonesian park. Results suggest that distributional inequalities favor external operators and urban gateway residents rather than rural villagers. Just as the local economy remains peripheral to regional and national centers, so core-periphery relations also exist within the local context. Development around the park has yet to re-orient itself to the goals of ecotourism.

Regents on Indonesia

The workshop was organized by the ASEAN Secretariat in joint collaboration with the US Forest Service, Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), and International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF). US East Asia and Pacific Environmental Initiative sponsored this workshop.

The workshop was attended by members of the ASEAN’s Subregional Firefighting Arrangements for Sumatra and Borneo (consisting of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore), 14 participants from Indonesia’s central and provincial agencies, 5 regents (or their representatives) of Indonesia’s fire-prone regions, and 26 representatives from relevant international agencies and collaborative partners working in the area of fires and transboundary haze pollution. About 50 people attended the workshop.

Among others, the workshop discussed the need to have a proper coordination in the formulation, implementation and review of all relevant activities in the region, whether it is national, bilateral or regional. Following this recommendation, the ASEAN Secretariat will initiate a mechanism to inventorize the relevant activities and provide a periodically-updated database in the ASEAN Haze Action Online to allow updating of the database by the ASEAN member countries and collaborative and partner agencies.

The History in Juneteenth

Juneteenth

What is Juneteenth? Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that all slaves were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger's regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.

Later attempts to explain this two and a half year delay in the receipt of this important news have yielded several versions that have been handed down through the years. Often told is the story of a messenger who was murdered on his way to Texas with the news of freedom. Another, is that the news was deliberately withheld by the slave masters to maintain the labor force on the plantations. And still another, is that federal troops actually waited for the slave owners to reap the benefits of one last cotton harvest before going to Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. All or neither could be true. For whatever the reason, conditions in Texas remained status quo well beyond what was statutory.

Juneteenth Festivities and Food

A range of activities were provided to entertain the masses, many of which continue in tradition today. Rodeos, fishing, barbecuing and baseball are just a few of the typical Juneteenth activities you may witness today. Juneteenth almost always focused on education and self improvement. Thus often guest speakers are brought in and the elders are called upon to recount the events of the past. Prayer services were also a major part of these celebrations.

Certain foods became popular and subsequently synonymous with Juneteenth celebrations such as strawberry soda-pop. More traditional and just as popular was the barbecuing, through which Juneteenth participants could share in the spirit and aromas that their ancestors - the newly emancipated African Americans, would have experienced during their ceremonies. Hence, the barbecue pit is often established as the center of attention at Juneteenth celebrations. Food was abundant because everyone prepared a special dish. Meats such as lamb, pork and beef which not available everyday were brought on this special occasion. A true Juneteenth celebrations left visitors well satisfied and with enough conversation to last until the next.

Dress was also an important element in early Juneteenth customs and is often still taken seriously, particularly by the direct descendants who can make the connection to this tradition's roots. During slavery there were laws on the books in many areas that prohibited or limited the dressing of slaves. During the initial days of the emancipation celebrations, there are accounts of slaves tossing their ragged garments into the creeks and rivers to adorn clothing taken from the plantations belonging to their former masters.

In the early years, little interest existed outside the African American community in participation in the celebrations. In some cases, there was outwardly exhibited resistance by barring the use of public property for the festivities. Most of the festivities found themselves out in rural areas around rivers and creeks that could provide for additional activities such as fishing, horseback riding and picnics. Often the church grounds was the site for such activities. Eventually, as African Americans became land owners, land was donated and dedicated for these festivities. One of the earliest documented land purchases in the name of Juneteenth was organized by Rev. Jack Yates. This fund-raising effort yielded $1000 and the purchase of Emancipation Park in Houston, Texas. In Mexia, the local Juneteenth organization purchased Booker T. Washington Park, which had become the Juneteenth celebration site in 1898. There are accounts of Juneteenth activities being interrupted and halted by white landowners demanding that their laborers return to work. However, it seems most allowed their workers the day off and some even made donations of food and money.

For decades these annual celebrations flourished, growing continuously with each passing year. In Booker T. Washington Park, as many as 20,000 African Americans once flowed through during the course of a week, making the celebration one of the state's largest.

Juneteenth Celebrations Decline

Economic and cultural forces provided for a decline in Juneteenth activities and participants beginning in the early 1900's. Classroom and textbook education in lieu of traditional home and family-taught practices stifled the interest of the youth due to less emphasis and detail on the activities of former slaves. Classroom text books proclaimed Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863 as the date signaling the ending of slavery - and little or nothing on the impact of General Granger's arrival on June 19th.

The Depression forced many people of the farms and into the cities to find work. In these urban environments, employers were less eager to grant leaves to celebrate this date. Thus, unless June 19th fell on a weekend or holiday, there were very few participants available. July 4th was the already established Independence holiday and a rise in patriotism steered more toward this celebration.

Juneteenth In Modern Times

Throughout the 80's and 90's Juneteenth has continued to enjoy a growing and healthy interest from communities and organizations throughout the country. Institutions such as the Smithsonian, the Henry Ford Museum and others have begun sponsoring Juneteenth-centered activities. In recent years, a number of National Juneteenth Organizations have arisen to take their place along side older organizations - all with the mission to promote and cultivate knowledge and appreciation of African American history and culture.

Juneteenth today, celebrates African American freedom while encouraging self-development and respect for all cultures. As it takes on a more national and even global perspective, the events of 1865 in Texas are not forgotten, for all of the roots tie back to this fertile soil from which a national day of pride is growing. The future of Juneteenth looks bright as the number of cities and states come on board and form local committees and organizations to coordinate the activities.

Communication and networking is vital. A sharing of lessons learned throughout all organizations will help expedite this growth while minimizing waste and risks. The Juneteenth Web site can play a vital role in these efforts. Thus, it is important to communicate its existence to one and all.

Health Scare Baby's by Scott Baio

Scott Baio Baby's Health Scare

Scott Baio went from confirmed bachelor to doting dad last November when his daughter Bailey DeLuca was born, telling PEOPLE, "I've loved my life. My life has been great, but this [fatherhood] makes it."

Then, just one day after his baby girl came home from the hospital, Baio, 47, and his then-fiancée Renee Sloan, 39, were hit with shocking news – Bailey had tested positive for a potentially fatal disorder, according to the couple's account on Celebrity Baby Blog.

"[I could] hear it in her voice," Renee said of a call from the pediatrician for them to bring Bailey to the hospital for more tests. After some tests showed the premature baby might have GA-1, a metabolic disorder that can cause seizures and leads to coma and even death, the couple were torn apart with worry. "It was the worst time in my life," Baio admitted.

"Every breath that you take, every thought that you have, every moment that you're conscious, it's all you're thinking about," Baio told CBB. "The disease is a constant in your brain. It never leaves you."

The couple married in December, showing no signs that Bailey, who was at the ceremony, might be sick. But, "every time [Scott] would see a child, see a baby, he would just break down," said Renee. "It was so tough to go through the holidays, our wedding ... all the while knowing, our kid may die."

Testing took 10 weeks, and when doctors told the couple Bailey was completely healthy and in the clear – the result had been a false positive – "we jumped through the ceiling," Baio said.

Now 7-months old, Bailey is healthy but her parents have a thankful outlook and want to use their experience to help others.

"In a way I'm glad I went through it. Because this sort of thing puts everything else in perspective," Baio said, adding of the foundation they are establishing, "We know we need to be a voice here, and that's what we're trying to do.

TOP REVIEW THE TRIFFIDS MOVIE

DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS
1963

A shower of meteorites produces a glow that blinds anyone that looks at it. As it was such a beautiful sight, most people were watching, and as a consequence, 99% of the population go blind. This chaos results in the escape of some Triffids: experimental plants that are capable of moving themselves around and attacking people

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE MOVIE

TRIVIA
The triffids inspired the E.T. plants of _E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)_ .

When the film was finished it was too short, so the entire sequence where the triffids attack the lighthouse was added.

Although credited with "additional music", composer Johnny Douglas actually supplied more music than the main composer, Ron Goodwin. According to the official music cue sheets, Douglas wrote 26 mins, Goodwin 19 minutes

Triffids are referenced in the opening number of the stage/film musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show: "I really got hot when I saw Janette Scott fight a triffid that spits poison and kills." Janette Scott played the role of Karen Goodwin in the 1962 film adaptation.

The Triffids is also the name of an Australian rock group from the 1980s.

In the computer game Darwinia there is an immobile enemy unit called a triffid that looks like a flower and spits dangerous seeds.

The film 28 Days Later features several nods to The Day of the Triffids, including the protagonist awakening in a deserted hospital, finding other survivors by following tower lights, and encountering a paramilitary group in a country house whose plans include the acquisition of women with whom to repopulate the country.

The band Gorillaz have a reference to a triffid on the band's official website. Upon further inspection of band member Murdoc's trailer in the Kong Studio parking garage, you'll find a triffid as a potted plant. When you place your cursor over it, it makes a strange noise and the subtext states, "Absolutely Triffid".

The band Ash have a song titled "Day of the Triffids" on their album Trailer.

The game Kingdom of Loathing has a triffid as an enemy encounter in "The Spooky Forest."

In the Area 52 sequence of Looney Tunes Back in Action, a Triffid can be seen among the aliens housed there.

Episode 6 of the anime series Princess Resurrection (Kaibutsu Oujo) features a walking plant named a Triffid. It has many differences from those in the book, however.

In the computer game Star Control II, a Supox captain is named "Trifid".

In the Marvel comic "New Universal" #1 one of the main characters references The Day of the Trifids saying "Bright light in the sky.Everyone looks. In the morning everyone who looks is blind then, big walking plants sting all the blind people to death. The end."

Artis Cindy Hensley McCain Role Affair

Cindy Lou Hensley McCain (born Cindy Lou Hensley on May 20, 1954[1]) is the wife of United States Senator and 2000 and 2008 presidential candidate John McCain of Arizona. She is chair of Hensley & Co.,[2][3] one of the largest Anheuser-Busch distributors in the nation.[2] She also founded and ran a non-profit organization from 1988 to 1995 that organized trips by medical personnel to disaster-struck or war-torn third-world areas. She continues to be an active philanthropist and serves on the boards of several charitable organizations.

Early life and educationCindy Lou Hensley was born in Phoenix, Arizona,[4] to James Hensley, who founded Hensley & Co. in 1955,[3] and Marguerite "Smitty" Hensley.[5][4] She grew up as an only child[6] in affluent circumstances[7], and was a rodeo queen in 1968.[8] She went to Central High School[6] in Phoenix, where she graduated in 1972.[9]

Hensley received a Bachelor of Arts in education and a Master of Arts in special education, both from the University of Southern California.[1][10] At USC, she was a cheerleader[11] and a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.[12] There she participated in a movement therapy pilot program that laid the way for a standard treatment for children with severe disabilities;[10] she published the work Movement Therapy: A Possible Approach in 1978.[13] Declining a role in the family business,[14] she then began a special education teaching career working with children with disabilities at Agua Fria High School in Avondale, Arizona.[10][4]

Marriage and family

Hensley met John McCain in April 1979 at a military reception in Hawaii.[15] He was the U.S. Navy liaison officer to the United States Senate, almost eighteen years her senior.[16] He was married to his wife Carol, and had previously had extramarital affairs in the mid-1970s.[17] Carol and John McCain had separated briefly once, but had since come back together.[15] McCain and Hensley quickly began a relationship.[16] Carol and John McCain finally separated in late 1979,[15][18] Carol accepted a divorce in February of 1980,[15] effective in April 1980, and then John and Cindy were married on May 17, 1980 in Phoenix. They made a prenuptial agreement that kept most of her family's assets under her name;[19] they have since kept their finances apart and file separate income tax returns.[19]

Her father's business and political contacts helped gain her husband a foothold into Arizona politics;[15] she campaigned with her husband door-to-door during his successful first bid for U.S. Congress in 1982,[8] with her wealth from an expired trust from her parents providing significant loans to the campaign[20][21][22] and helping it survive a period of early debt.[23] Once he was elected, the couple moved to Alexandria, Virginia.[24] She spent two months in late 1983 writing handwritten notes on over 4,000 Christmas cards to be sent to constituents and others, and grew homesick for Arizona.[24]

After several miscarriages,[16] Cindy Hensley McCain gave birth to her first three children: Meghan (born 1984), John Sidney IV (known as "Jack") (born 1986), and James (known as "Jimmy") (born 1988).[25] By early 1984, she had moved back to Arizona;[24] her parents lived across the street and helped her raise the children while her husband was frequently in Washington.[16]

Role in 2000 presidential campaign

Although wary of the media,[7] McCain was active in her husband's eventually unsuccessful campaign for President of the United States in 2000.[14] She mostly provided good cheer, without discussing her opinions about national policy. She impressed Republican voters with her looks and elegance at coffee shops and other small campaign settings, where she frequently referred to her children, carpooling, and charity work.[8]

She was upset by the notorious smear tactics against her husband in the South Carolina primary that year, which included allegations involving her adopted daughter Bridget that she found "despicable".[14] Cindy McCain eventually forgave those responsible.[8] She was chosen as the chair of the Arizona delegation to the 2000 Republican National Conventio

Role in 2008 presidential campaign

She has been active and visible in her husband's presidential campaign during 2007 and 2008.[8] She made statements critical of the Bush administration for not deploying enough troops during the Iraq War,[8] and was an internal critic within the McCain campaign of its profligate spending during the first part of 2007.[11] During the campaign, she returned to Arizona frequently to attend to domestic duties[38] and interrupted campaigning for her overseas charitable work.[11] She has stated that the American public wants a First Lady of the United States who will tend toward a traditional role in that position.[41] She would not attend Cabinet meetings,[38] but would continue her involvement in overseas non-profit organizations and would urge Americans to do the same globally or locally.[38]

In February 2008, McCain made news by being critical of Michelle Obama, the wife of Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama, who had said, "And let me tell you something: For the first time in my adult lifetime I am really proud of my country." McCain replied: "I am proud of my country. I don't know about you — if you heard those words earlier — I am very proud of my country."[42] Also in February 2008, she publicly appeared aside her husband during a press conference in response to a newspaper report regarding his connection to a lobbyist.[43] In April 2008, some recipes on the McCain campaign website attributed to Cindy McCain turned out to be copied from the Food Network;[44][45] the campaign attributed the problem to an error by an intern.[44] Earlier in the year, Cindy McCain submitted as her own a Food Network recipe for passion fruit mousse to an article published in The New York Sun.[44] In May 2008, she declined to make her separate income tax return public, saying it was a privacy issue and that she would not do so even if she became First Lady.[46] Later the same month, she released the first two pages of her 2006 return, which showed $6 million in income for that year (including nearly $570,000 in itemized deductions and more than $1.7 million paid in federal income taxes).[47] In June 2008, a Rasmussen Reports poll found that 49 percent of voters viewed Cindy McCain favorably and 29 percent unfavorably,[48] while an ABC News/Washington Post poll found figures of 39 percent and 25 percent respectively.[49]

Kendal Sheppard is "Road Rules"

Kendal Sheppard, one of the stars of MTV's "Road Rules", blasted actor Josh Henderson on her MySpace profile Tuesday for being a deadbeat daddy.

In a MySpace blog entitled "Father's Day and My Baby's Daddy," Sheppard, 27, expressed her emotions about the dichotomy of her relationship with her her son Asa and Henderson, his father.

"With my son's first birthday on the same day as Father's day, I can't help but have mixed feelings," says Sheppard. "I am so excited to celebrate the day my very favorite boy was born, but a feeling of anger and rage sweeps my body when I think of little Asa's biological dead beat dad."

Sheppard explains that Henderson "had made it clear from the beginning that he wanted nothing to do with his son." She said that she thought she made progress over the course of the year, but it is evident that Henderson wants nothing to do with their son.

Sheppard also said that Henderson recently told people that the DNA test he took 10 months ago was "inconclusive". She said that Henderson originally admitted that he was the father, but has changed his mind.

Henderson, 27, is an actor who recently played Austin McCann on "Desperate Housewives". He previously dated Paris Hilton and Ashlee Simpson, whom he dated for two years.

Sheppard was featured on MTV’s "Road Rules: Campus Crawl" in the series’ eleventh season. She later was featured on MTV’s "The Inferno".

Build a Computer

Author: Directpc

This is a complete step-by-step guide of buiding your own computer. We are giving you all the tips and hints that you need to know before you start building your own computer.

Step 1: component selection
The first and most important part of any computer system assembly is proper component selection, both compatibility- and performance-wise. Ensuring that the memory is compatible with the mainboard, videocard is of the proper interface and supports the necessary features, power supply is of adequate wattage and quality, enclosure having adequate ventilation is a must-do in order to have a trouble-free system which performs as expected. The best ways to make sure that all the candidates for your system are compatible with each other are:

Review websites: searching for a review of every part is a good idea, as the editors often indicate whether any issues were encountered. A good review will also give you a performance comparison to other similar parts, so you will know what to expect from your system.

Salesperson or customer service representative: since it is a part of their job description, a knowledgeable service rep will be able to offer a good advice or suggestion as well as prevent possible complications.

A knowledgeable friend or acquaintance: chances are high that either you know someone who is into computers or someone you know knows one. Beware of biased opinions though.

In the end, the more sources of information you use, the better the chances of you getting the right hardware.

Step 2: assembly
Now that you have all the parts, time to make them a whole.

Prepare for assembly: make sure you are not wearing synthetic clothes as they could cause an electrostatic discharge and damage the delicate electronics. Also ensure the space is well-lit since you may need to operate with really tiny parts like jumpers. When unpacking the parts, it is best to leave them in/on the electrostatic packaging they came in until installation.

Install the power supply into the case and bolt it down. If it is a modular type then also install the connectors corresponding to the number/type of devices in your system. Now would also be the best time to install the extra case fans, if you got any.

Line the mainboard up with the case (or removable mainboard tray, if your case has one). Screw/snap the standoffs into the case/tray ensuring that you have the same number of standoffs as the mainboard's holes. If you have one or two fewer, no big deal; if you install an extra one it will touch the mainboard from the backside and will either short-circuit it or prevent it from powering up. Small but important detail.

Install the CPU by opening the locking mechanism on the mainboard and carefully dropping it in (refer to your mainboards' manual). Do not ever use any force; if it doesn't fit it means you may need to rotate it. Install the heatsink by placing it on top of the CPU and either pushing the locking pins through the holes (Intel) or locking the lever (AMD). Refer to the manual if not sure. Next, install the RAM modules ensuring that you match the notches (RAM fits only one way), as well as placing the stick in dual-channel mode, if your system supports it.

Now that the CPU and RAM are installed in the board, time to place it inside the case. Before you do that, however, make sure that you place the IO shield (the metal plate with cutouts for mainboard connectors) in the case. Almost every shield is unique, so you must use the one that came with your mainboard. After that, place the board right over the standoffs and bolt it down. Plug the large 20 or 24-pin power connector as well as the smaller 4- or 8-pin 12V power connector into the board. Now connect the HDD activity LED/power/reset button connectors, referring to the manual for proper placement.

Install the optical and hard drives as well as floppy drives and/or card readers into the case. Connect each one to an appropriate data cable, such as SATA cable for hard drives and flat IDE cable for opticals. If you have more than one optical drive, you may need to set the jumpers at the back of the drives, with one drive becoming the master and the other - slave. Plug the corresponding power cables from the PSU into each device as well. Card readers do not require a power cable, and get both power and data through the USB cable connected to the mainboard. Again, refer to the manual for proper USB connection guide.

Install the graphics card and other devices such as sound card and TV tuner. Connect the 6-pinIf you have an SLI or Crossfire platform, connect the two cards with a bridge if required. Note: it is also a good practice to first install nothing but a single videocard into the freshly-built system, as it will prevent possible conflicts which older operating systems are prone to, and then add one component at a time.

Now that your system is assembled, check that every component has power running to it from the PSU: videocard should have one if it is a high-powered one, HDD's, floppy and opticals should have a data and power cable.

Connect a keyboard, a monitor and the power cable. Now hold your breath and push the power button on the system you have built with your own hands. Considering everything was done properly, it should emit a short beep and start booting. It will stop at the point where it detects that no operating system is present, saying something like: "Boot disk failure, insert a boot disk and press any key when ready". Read on to find out what's next!

Step 3: OS and drivers installation and testing
So you have a system that's successfully powered up and is humming along. But to make it useful, you need to be able to interface with it. In the future, humans will be able to hook directly into the system; today, we use different Operating Systems, with Windows XP or Vista being the most common ones and others like Linux being used in more sophisticated fields.

First, restart your computer by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete simultaneously. When it starts booting up again, press Delete again right after it beeped in order to go into the BIOS setup. BIOS stands for "Basic Input Output System", and it performs the most basic tasks such as detecting hard drives before an Operating System has been even installed. Navigate through the options to find one that is called "Boot priority" (refer to the mainboard's manual). Set one of the opticals as the first boot device, and the hard drive(s) as secondary ones. Put the Windows installation CD/DVD in the drive designated as the first boot device. Now hit F10 to save the settings and reboot. Note: if you have a card reader connected, it might be a good idea to disconnect it for time being; otherwise, the main hard drive may be designated not as C: on some mainboards. Always power down the computer and disconnect the power cable when connecting/disconnecting devices!

This time, the PC will find the Windows CD/DVD in the drive, and will start the interactive installation. All you need to do is answer simple questions such as Time zone, who will be the main user etc. Upon completion of the installation, the computer will finally boot to Windows desktop.

Now, you must be eager to start using your new system. However, there is the last step to be taken: driver installation. Drivers enable the OS to recognize and use the hardware such as graphics and audio cards, network adapters, and even the mainboard itself is not fully functional until the chipset drivers have been installed. All the drivers can be found on the bundled CD's that came with the hardware. You should install the mainboard drivers first (sometimes the manufacturer creates a program that does all the driver installation for you), then everything else. Remember to reboot every time you are prompted.

Finally, it would be a good idea to test out the new system, to make sure that all devices are functioning properly. To do that, you can either simply use the computer for whatever purpose you created it, or run specialized programs which quickly determine whether your system is fully stable and is able to cope with heavy loads. The most popular ones are the 3DMark series by Futuremark for graphics stability and performance measurement, HDtach for hard drive performance measurements, memtest86 for memory, Prime95 for overall chipset/CPU stability and S&M for extreme load simulation. The exact way to use each one is included in the program's manual as well as is available on many forums/discussion groups.

There you have it, a pile of parts turned into a complete computer system. Unfortunately, the above guide represents the best-case scenario, and the reality is such that quite often a problem may occur at any one of the above steps, and resolving or even listing every potential one is well beyond the scope of this article. The best way to resolve one is either asking for manufacturer's help, browsing the forums or maybe even taking the system to the shop to have a certified technician take a look. Either way, there are no miracles and every problem has a fully logical explanation and a way to resolve it.
