Strees in Management

Ever imagined yourself alone in the beach, quietly reading your favorite book or listening to that album you've put out for so long? If your answer to this question is yes, then it's time for you to start packing and begin that long awaited, well-deserved vacation. Today more than ever in history, stress has become a prominent concern. Different kinds of stress-related issues affect each individual in various levels. One simple way to relieve this is by taking a vacation. It may sound easier said than done however, many would attest to the immense effect this activity had on their lives.

Vacations, whether just for an extended weekend or a full two-week out in the country trip, are not only meant for only those people who burn the midnight oil. Professionals and non-professionals alike, employees at all levels in all jobs, should set aside time for themselves, their family or friends.

Taking time away is a perfect time to relax and not be bothered by the hustle and bustle of the corporate or everyday world. If you have it coming, make sure to use up those paid vacation leaves. You've earned it.

First, your emotional and physical body parts have their respective saturation levels. If you think or perform physical duties without reprieve and relaxation, chances are you're taking years off your life. Taking a break proves to be a significant factor in reaching those "wonder" years in your life. It reduces the death rate by as much as 20 percent. The average human lives up to about 65-70 years old however, this lifespan can be stretched to as long as 80-90 by just having that "down" time.

Second, improving your mental health equals less stress and depression. Most women, usually mothers who do round-the-clock work at home, get so caught up with their daily routines that they forget about taking care of themselves. Husbands should understand the need for their wives to detoxify themselves from all the cleaning and cooking. Working women likewise should pause and take time to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Third, relationships are equally important as anyone's career. Any imbalance between the two can end up in a disaster. Whether it is your family or friend, quality time is the best gift to embrace. Vacations are a perfect time to rekindle those sparks which have either been long forgotten or put to a halt because of each partner's careers. Children need to see their parents in a healthy and complementing relationship in order for them to feel that they are loved and their family whole.

Fourth, when thinking of a perfect vacation spot, don't be overwhelmed by how a certain place has been commercially advertised. Pick a place where you think you can enjoy just being yourself. Letting the kid inside you rule your heart in the few days or weeks you get is worth all the years sitting behind that desk. Ask yourself when was the last time you really had fun - real play - that is. The answer to this question should help you decide where and what type of activities you'd like to do while away. This should be the main thing for you.

Now that you have considered taking a vacation, there are quite a handful of tips to get you started. Have an account solely intended for vacation expenses. This is something you should really start doing at the beginning of the year or shortly after that last trip you had. Saving a few dollars from your paycheck will come a long way. To save on money, be sure to book your flights and resort locations early.

Put everyone on notice that you are taking your vacation, providing at least a months notice. This will allow for adjustments in the office. Knowing that you'll be out will give all of you time adjust in accomplishing tasks and rescheduling the others if need be.

The biggest mistake you can make is to bring your mobile phone or your laptop. If you do this, forget relaxation. You're giving your boss a reason to call when he shouldn't be. If possible, do not disclose any information to your office as to where you'll be checking in, or your itinerary for the trip. Doing so will ruin the spontaneity of the entire journey. Lastly, don't fall for that "emergency" call. Most emergencies aren't really emergencies. Learn to say no and let the people back home handle the situation. If you can't get away with it, negotiate with your boss. You're still entitled to that extra 2-3 days leave and these should form part of your next trip. Taking a break from your usual routine should not make you feel guilty. Just think of it as a much-deserved gift you are giving yourself after all your hard work.

Economic

The British have long been caricatured as a miserable bunch. But now, it seems, we are officially unhappy.

A variety of recent surveys claim that society is becoming less happy than in the past. In February 2003, Lord Richard Layard, co-director of the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics, gave a series of high-profile lectures on the subject. The UK government is now considering how to formulate policy around social happiness, after holding a special seminar on 'life satisfaction' in late 2002.

The ongoing discussion about our unhappy society is helping to create a new consensus. It is argued that many economic aspects of capitalism that were once presumed to cause happiness - more money, consumption and economic growth - do not. By contrast, it is suggested, happiness comes from non-economic factors, such as friendships, marriage and leisure activities.

Furthermore, economists and psychologists have developed theories implying that there is something intrinsic to modern capitalism that actively causes unhappiness. We are unhappily 'addicted' to money and spending - to use the fashionable expression, we are trapped on a 'hedonic treadmill'. We are also said to be 'polluting' others psychologically and causing their unhappiness when we consume more.

A growing conclusion is that society should practise a form of self-restraint: in order to be happy, we should deliberately rein in our aspirations for more money. Society should try to limit its economic growth, to avoid its members polluting others in their quest for more consumption. The fact that the government is seriously considering how to create policies around these ideas suggests the need for a critical analysis of this 'happiness' discussion. How much is it an accurate, objective assessment of the society we live in today?

Britain in 2003 certainly exudes a general feeling of discontentment. There is a popular notion that life is increasingly stressful and superficial, lacking a clear sense of direction and meaning. This ill-defined discontentment, however, is related to broader social and political trends.

Commentators tend to exaggerate the notion of unhappiness, almost believing that society is now permanently miserable. And most confusing of all, they try to locate the causes of discontent in economic factors.

Economists, psychologists and others now seem to be working overtime to imply a link between economic aspects of life and social unhappiness. To elaborate their theories, virtually all commentators in this debate draw upon happiness research - surveys that ask people to rate how happy they feel. They are keen to point out that average happiness levels have not increased in Britain over the past few decades. On average, people have tended to say they are quite happy or thereabouts. Our happiness, it is said, is stagnating.

These static average happiness levels are then correlated with something outside the research: the reality of economic progress and the fact that society on average has become richer. It is then suggested that more money does not make us happier.

In a further attempt to imply a link between economic factors and unhappiness, psychological theories are drawn upon. Britain on the Couch, the influential mid-1990s book by psychologist Oliver James, subtitled 'Why are we unhappier than we were in the 1950s - despite being richer'. James argued that our aspirations for more and more wealth essentially make us more discontented. Capitalism encourages people to earn and spend more and compete. Individuals become trapped on a 'hedonic treadmill' not of their own making - a never-ending pressure to earn and spend more and 'keep up with the Joneses'.

Internet Marketing Affiliate Program

Internet marketing affiliate programs can do wonders for an entrepreneur looking to have success online. When you talk with people online, you will hear an equal number of people who have failed and succeeded. The difference between the two is minimal, but there are some simple mistakes that can be costly. Here are 5 affiliate program mistakes to avoid.

1. Not having a plan:
With the internet changing as often as it does, it is essential that you have a plan of some sort. While your plan is certain to change with the internet, having a plan will prepare you for what is to come. If you know where you want to take your affiliate program, bumps and curves along the road will only temporarily throw you off.

2. Selling the program:
It can become quite easy for one to get caught up in the game and begin to sell the program instead of the product itself. What you have to realize is that you are going to make your money off of commissions through selling the product. Too many people sign up and then attempt to sign up as many other people as they can. While it is perfectly okay to try to sign up as many people as you can you are not going to get rich off of second-tier commissions. Stick to where the real money can be made.

3. Going through the motions:
There is nothing worse than a salesman that is going through the motions and appears to be looking at a sheet of paper with guidelines. If you want to have success with an internet marketing affiliate program, you have to have passion and believe in what you are selling. This is not to say that every person you talk to is going to sign up or purchase something. But you will sound so much more influencing if you believe in what you are saying.

4. Moving to quickly:
While time is money on the internet, each customer is potential money as well. Take the time to talk with prospects so that you leave a lasting impact on them. Jumping from one customer to the next too quickly will do nothing for you. If you show each prospect that you truly care about them and their needs, they will be more inclined to listen. From there, you can sell your product on a more personal level and give them reasons for how your product can truly benefit them.

5. Be yourself:
The last thing you want to do is create a typical affiliate program page to sell off of. This looks too automated and far to cliche. If you want to have success, personalize your page and show people you are an individual. There are thousands of affiliate program sites that are identical; mix things up and make yours stand out.

While there are hundreds of things you can and should try to avoid with your internet marketing affiliate program, try not to get too caught up in worrying about these things. You are going to make mistakes, but try to move on without a hesitation. These are a few of the mistakes you may encounter along the way. But as long as you remain confident and goal-oriented, you will set yourself up for success with affiliate marketing.
